TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
i. Variable frequency drive shall be suitable for operating at voltage and frequency
mentioned above.
ii. VFD shall have facility for selecting motor power rating, over current trip, other
protections settings.
iii. VFD shall have adequate no. of analog and digital inputs/outputs for control, monitor
and indications. VFDs shall have programmable digital/analog inputs for setting
output frequency, starting, and stopping of motors connected to respective VFDs
from the PLC/DCS (4-20 mA signal). VFDs shall also have analog/digital outputs (4-
20 mA) for indicating status of VFDs (ON, OFF &TRIP), output frequency.
iv. Frequency meter shall be provided at remote place (control room) for indicating
output frequency of VFD.
v. The system offered shall be energy efficient, provide very high reliability, high power
factor, low harmonic distortion, low vibration and wear and noise. It shall be easy to
install with minimum time and expense and no special tools shall be required for
routine maintenance.
vi. The system shall be suitable for the load characteristics and the operational duty of
the driven equipment. It shall be capable of withstanding the thermal and dynamic
stresses and the transient mechanical torques resulting from short circuit. Any damage
resulting from such a short circuit or internal fault shall be limited to the component
concerned.
vii. VFD shall be suitable for installation in industrial environment.
viii. Any special requirement for the VFD with specific reference to drive shall be
mentioned.
ix. The system shall be suitable for continuous speed control of the motors with a soft
start feature facility to reduce disturbance in the electrical system. The speed control
shall be as dictated by the user between 5 and 100 %.
x. The drive shall be able to accelerate the load over the full speed range of the speed –
torque curves and with incoming line voltage regulation of ± 10 %.
xi. Overload capability of the drive shall be 150% of rated current for 1 min. & repetition
at every 10 minutes.
xii. The frequency regulation shall be ±0.1% of rated maximum frequency under steady
state and ±5% during transient condition. The output frequency variation of Drives
shall be 2.5 Hz to 50 Hz.
xiii. It shall be possible to vary the speed of the drive either manually or in auto mode.
xiv. VFD shall be suitable for RS 485 interface communication.
xv. Suitably rated switch disconnecting fuse unit (SDFU) shall be provided on upstream
side of VFD system for isolating the system. Breaking capacity of the fuse shall be
suitable for system fault level.
POWER CONVERTER:
a) The controller shall be microprocessor based, digital with state of art technology.
b) The controller shall be vector controlled, sensor less drive with pulse width
modulation (PWM) and shall be voltage source inverter.
c) The rectifier shall make use of three phase bridge rectifier for power conversion
from AC to DC.
d) The inverter section shall use latest SCR/IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor)
technology for minimal loss, high speed switching and very low harmonics.
e) The converter and inverter shall be able to withstand a three-phase short circuit
current/ let through energy until interrupted by protective device.
f) The drive cooling system, if provided, shall be monitored and alarmed before any
damage occurs to the power controller devices.
g) Logic shall be provided to restrict the no. of HOT/COLD starts of motor as
specified elsewhere.
h) All the power controller devices shall be protected with fast acting semiconductor
grade fuse.
HARMONICS:
Drive shall have total harmonic distortion not exceeding 5% as per IEEE standard.
Harmonic filters shall be provided at the supply side of the drive system on the
maximum allowable level of current and voltage distortion as stated below.
a) Current Harmonics
Based on the short circuit capacity of the supply system, the percentage of he
individual harmonics in the line current shall be limited to maximum allowable value
as specified in IEEE - 519.
b) Voltage Harmonics: Based on the short circuit capacity of the supply system,
the percentage of the individual harmonics in the line voltage shall be limited to
maximum allowable value as specified in IEEE - 519.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS:
a) The panel shall include suitable isolating devices i.e., switch disconnecting fuse
unit (SDFU) of adequate capacity, rectifier & inverter modules with protective
devices, reactors for suppressing commutating notches, control circuit, control
accessories, MCCB or OVERLOD for each motors, indication and annunciation etc.
b) Main isolating device shall be suitably rated and operating handle should be
accessible from outside the panel. Isolating device shall be installed at front side of
the panel and lockable in OFF position.
c) All electronic components shall be of solid state type. All power semiconductor
devices shall be of silicon type.
d) All electronic components shall be suitably rated to withstand high temperature
inside the panel.
PROTECTION, CONTROL, METERING AND INDICATION/ ANNUNCIATION
REQUIREMENTS
a) The manufacturer shall provide all the system control, protection, alarm
equipment and metering for the entire drive system and its ancillary equipments and
its description shall be furnished along with the offer including the details of the
system built up.
b) Automatic sequence control shall include start up of cooling system, interlock
checking, automatic start and run-up of drive, planned and emergency shutdown, the
same shall preferably be processed through microprocessor based system.
c) Alphanumeric display and keypad control panel shall be provided for mounting
on the drive panel. The fault diagnostic shall be displayed in plain English instead of
fault codes.
d) Fault history for at least 10 faults shall be stored in memory in the operator
keypad so that it can be retrieved, whenever required. For annunciation solid-state
hooter along with accept, test and reset push buttons shall be provided on front of the
panel only.
e) Provision for auto start and run up to required speed for stand by motor shall be
made in the system. The auto/manual selection shall be from local/Remote. The
required interfacing with existing system is in the scope of vendor.
PROTECTIONS REQUIREMENTS:
The system offered shall incorporate adequate protection and alarms properly
coordinated by the vendor for the drive control and for motor but not limited to the
following.
For MAIN DRIVE MOTOR:
a. Over voltage
b.Under voltage
c. Over Load
d.Short circuit
e. Phase unbalance/single phasing
For CONVERTER:
a) Loss of incoming line voltage
b) Transient voltage fluctuations
c) DC link over voltage
d) Loss of control voltage
e) Earth fault
f) High temperature inside enclosure (value to be specified by bidder)
g) Over current
h) Deviation from set point (value to be specified by bidder )
i) Cooling medium temperature high(value to be specified by bidder)
j) Loss of one cooling system
k) Single device failure
l) Multiple device failure
ANNUNCIATION:
Fault annunciation for following shall be provided. Alarm shall also be annunciated
through solid state hooter. Display of minimum five most recent faults shall also be
provided.
a) Rectifier fuse failure
b) Main AC failure
c) Inverter overload
d) Inverter high temperature
e) No cooling of panel/motor
f) Motor failed to start.
PANELS:
All VFDs shall be installed inside the panels.
I) General requirements of panels:
1) VFDs, SDFU and all other components shall be accommodated in a
separate self contained, self standing, floor mounted, damp and vermin
proof, sheet steel cubicle of folded construction.
2) The enclosure shall be made of 2 mm thick CRCA sheet, removable gland
plate shall be made of 3 mm CRCA sheet and protection of the cubicles
shall be IP 42.
3) The cubicles shall have hinged doors with locking facility. All doors and
removable covers shall be gasketed all round with non-aging rubber/
neoprene gaskets. The hinges shall be of concealed type.
4) All controls and indicating instruments shall be flush mounted on the
front side and shall be arranged so as to give a neat appearance. Labels
shall be provided for designating each component mounted on the panel.
5) All components shall be mounted with ample clearance in between them
for convenience of operation, inspection and maintenance.
6) Cubicles shall be provided with necessary internal panel lamps, with
ON/OFF switch and HRC fuses.
7) Anti condensation heater controlled with thermostat (suitable for AC mains
supply specified) shall be provided inside the cubicles.
8) The cubicles shall be designed suitable for the maximum ambient
temperature of 45 deg.C. Natural cooling is preferred for the cubicles.
9) All internal wiring shall be done with insulated copper conductors of
adequate size and shall be neatly clamped together and laid out nicely.
Both ends of wires shall be provided with numbered ferrules for
identification.
10) The power conductors shall be PVC insulated and of adequate size to carry
the power currents.
11) The maximum permissible current density shall be 1.25A/mm2for copper
busbars and 0.78A/mm2 for aluminium busbars. The bus bars shall be
colour coded and PVC sleeved. The busbars and busbar supports shall be
designed to withstand the effects of short circuit currents. The busbar
supports shall be of non hygroscopic materials. Clearance between busbars,
bus bar and earth shall be as per relevant Indian standard.
12) The cubicles shall be complete with inter connecting cables, wires, and
necessary cable glands for incoming and outgoing cables.
13) All incoming and outgoing cables shall be entered from top/bottom with
removable gland plate as per details given below.
14) Incoming and outgoing cables shall be terminated by the bidder and all the
accessories like cable lands, lugs etc shall be supplied by the bidder.
15) The live parts shall be shrouded to ensure safety to personnel when panel
doors are opened for inspection.
16) Necessary name plates giving relevant particulars of the equipment shall be
provided on individual equipment / component.
17) Duplicate earthing terminals and earth bus at the bottom shall be provided
for each panel.
18) Ventilation louvers provided shall have dust filters.
19) Necessary foundation bolts, nuts, washers, etc. shall be supplied along with
the panels.
20) Painting of panels shall be done as per standard practice & relevant Indian
standard. The colour of the paint shall be selected during drawing approval
stage.
21) Facility for handling the equipment at site, such as lifting lugs, shall be
provided.
